Jack Neo has made a new film! Woohooo and I am so excited, it is to be released on the 13th of August 2009, and I saw the trailer it looks interesting. I'm sure it would be good, Jack Neo films are always great. I can't wait, I MUST watch it!
And this is a book by Darren Shiau called Heartland. He is a local writer, I just finished reading this book and I really think it was fantastic. If you have the time, please do read this book for it's really worth the read. It can be found at Popular bookshop and you can purchase it for $14 something dollars.
I just feel like mentioning this. As much as I'm a huge fan of Classics and Victorian novels, I also have a huge appreciation for local stuff. I think it's really sad that our locals are really talented in many ways but they are not really known and recognised to the masses. People have this stereotypical notion that what is local is substandard. Some new author makes it big in the west and people flock to Borders, pay the price and read the book, but so many talented people are not known by half of us Singaporeans.
I think that people should stop condemning their own country and saying oh yeah we can never compare to this and that blah blah blah, and we should be appreciative. We should show more appreciation to what comes from our own country. Only then would others start appreciating us. If we are so busy appreciating everything foreign, it doesn't help!
